If you are looking into getting auto insurance one of the first questions you will need to answer is how much auto insurance do I need? The answer to this question depends on several factors. One factor is your car how new it is, how much it is worth, do you own the car or do you have a loan, the make and model of the car and what state you live in. Other factors that affect how much insurance you need are your age and driving record. Also if you have added upgrades to your car that were not on it when it was built might also cause you to need more insurance. If you own a classic car, you can expect to pay higher rates due to the fact that the car is harder and more expensive to replace.

If your vehicle is new and in excellent condition you will need to have full coverage insurance. In most states if you have a loan on the car you must carry full coverage insurance. Full coverage insurance completely covers all cost of damage to your car and any other cars or people that are involved in an accident no matter which driver is found to be at fault. If the car is totaled, it will cover the entire cost of the car plus there may even be a little left to put a down payment on a replacement vehicle depending on how much you owe. If you have an older car that is paid off then you will probably want to choose liability insurance.

Liability insurance covers the other person’s vehicle in the event of an accident when you are found at fault. All repairs to your vehicle have to be covered by you. Liability insurance protects you from being sued by the other driver. Most states have a minimum amount of insurance that you must carry but it is a good idea to carry a little more insurance than what the state requires. No matter which type of insurance you choose if you have expensive add-ons to your car such as wheels or an audio system make sure that your agent is aware of these so that extra coverage can be added. When you choose a company to purchase auto insurance from make an appointment to set down and meet with an agent and they can let you know what insurance is going to be best for you in the area where you live.
