DeBeBop’s Review of Liberty Mutual Automobile Insurance
After shopping around for car and house insurance, I found the rates to be very reasonable, so I went for it. It was most likely the best move I ever made. The agent’s office is within a few miles from my house, which made going there very convenient. When my car was hit in the rear, the insurance company, was MOST helpful. The driver that hit me admitted to the police it was his fault. My insurance company made sure that I was completely covered in every aspect. My insurance company made sure that I was given a rental car until my car was fixed. They called me to make sure that I was doing okay. I ended up having my car fixed, a rental car for 5 weeks and no raise of rates. Also, when I became separated, they helped me update every policy in no time at all. I am VERY satisfied with the service my insurance company has given me.
Having spent nearly ten years selling insurance for these guys (and having been insured by them for the same time), I feel qualified to make a few observations.

First of all, they are no better or worse than any other huge company trying to make money by selling insurance. They all use the same actuarial tables but each company decides the particular market niches they want to expand in. If you happen to fall into one of these niches, you will find the rates to be exceptional. For Liberty, that means being a married, multi-car, college educated homeowner with a pretty clean driving record.

Where Liberty isn’t particularly strong is in the claims paying arena and that is mainly because they don’t pay the adjusters very well and there is constant turnover.

Understanding what is and isn’t covered under a particular policy falls onto not only the salesperson but the policyholder. You wouldn’t believe how many times I would try to explain what someone was buying only to have them tell me they didn’t care. Price was their only concern. If you buy from a company because of its price, then you shouldn’t feel badly when you realize later that other important aspects were sacrificed to keep that price low.

I would never recommend an insurance company because of its pricing. Check with other people you trust who have had claims experience and try to get a sense of who will be servicing your account once the sale has been made. If you like the salesperson, ask if he or she will be the one you will be speaking with in the future. Quite often, that’s not the case. A good salesperson will take extra time up front to answer questions and even anticipate ones that should have been asked. Find out how long they’ve been with the same company and how long their service person has been there as well. Ask about the claims process. Insurance companies exist to make money. It’s up to the policyholder to make an informed decision based on more than price.
sestabrooks’s Full Review: Liberty Mutual Automobile Insurance Group
I have always used Liberty Mutual Insurance for my auto insurance (14 years). I chose this company initially because it is the company my parents use. I have stayed with them because of the fair price and good service I have received from them. I am a very educated consumer and have called around for price quotes from other companies such as Geiko and Metlife, but Liberty Mutual remains the cheapest.

Not only is the pricing fair, but the person on the other end of the phone is almost always kind. It seems they try hard to understand my insurance needs. They have counseled me on ways to lower my rate based on my lifestyle, car status, etc. This, of course, saves me money, but lowers the amount coming to them. This honesty is one of the main reasons that I remain with this company.

I have been in two claim situations since being insured with them. In both instances, I felt like the situation was handled as quickly and as fairly as possible. I have forwarded several of my friends to their company and they have been satisfied, as well.

I have had no bad experiences with them and cannot think of a reason why anyone shouldn’t consider being insured with them.
